    • PURPOSE: To deliver meals to the elderly.
    • SERVICES: Nutritious meals delivered to the elderly who cannot prepare their own meals or who need a special diet. Frozen dinners for Sat, Sun, & Mon were delivered on Friday.
    • ELIGIBILITY: Elderly are not able to prepare their own meals or are in need of a special diet; doctors sometimes recommend participants.

    • PURPOSE: To meet the needs of the senior citizens of the Magic Valley area.
    • SERVICES: Serves as a third party between the senior and the agency he or she is having difficulty with–such as utility company, insurance, health benefits, Social Security, nursing home complaints, etc. This office also gives referrals for legal assistance for the elderly as well as assistance with completing forms. Many problems for the elderly–Nutrition, Foster Grandparents, Senior Companion, Retired Volunteer, JTPA, etc.

    • PURPOSE: In partnership with the Department of Defense, major military medical centers, and veterans service organizations, Higher Ground serves men and women of the armed forces who have been severely wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. The types of injuries SVAS specializes in include traumatic brain injuries, blindness, visual impairment, PTSD, spinal cord, amputations, and severe burns.
    • SERVICE: Certified trained veteran outreach coordinators are available to provide phone counseling. Higher Ground uses sports and recreational activities as a means of healing, therapy, and rehabilitation. The program offers four winter snowsports camps, one watersports camp, and two fly-fishing camps to more than 80 warriors and their significant others each year. Some of the more popular activities include alpine skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, sled hockey, snowshoeing, ice skating, fly fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, kayaking, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, mountain biking, canoeing, hiking, and paragliding.

    • SERVICES: Emergency relief, financial, help with the completion of applications, personal help, veteran’s advocate.
    • ELIGIBILITY: Wartime veteran and Idaho veteran. Two years of Idaho residence is required but call for details for an emergency relief grant.

    • PURPOSE: This a toll-free line targeted to the population of returning armed forces men and women and veterans from previous conflicts and wars. This “life” line is a confidential connection that plans to utilize trained peer veterans ready to provide hope and help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
    • For veterans who came back from active duty and have trouble with memories and experiences of the war. It is a time to honor soldiers who gave their lives in service to their country. Some soldiers lost much of themselves in combat though they may have not lost their lives. Some have returned deadened and numbed to emotion, wracked with survivor guilt and images of what they witnessed.

  • VETERANS SUICIDE PREVENTION HOTLINE

    • PURPOSE: The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has founded a national suicide prevention hotline to ensure veterans in emotional crisis have free, 24/7 access to trained counselors. To operate the Veterans Hotline, the VA partnered with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Veterans can call the Lifeline number, 1-800-273-TALK (8255), and press “1” to be routed to the Veterans Suicide Prevention Hotline.
